Dave Shoji is a retired American volleyball coach who was the head coach of the University of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine volleyball team for 42 years. He is considered one of the most successful and respected coaches in the history of collegiate women's volleyball.
Shoji started his coaching career at the University of Hawaii in 1975 and led the Rainbow Wahine to four national championships (in 1979, 1982, 1983, and 1987). He was named the AVCA National Coach of the Year three times (1982, 2009, 2011) and was inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame in 2002.
Throughout his career, Shoji coached many All-American players and led the Rainbow Wahine to numerous conference and regional championships. He retired in 2017 with a career record of 1,202 wins and 220 losses, making him one of the winningest coaches in NCAA volleyball history.
Shoji's impact on women's volleyball goes beyond the court, as he is known for his integrity, dedication to his players, and commitment to growing the sport. His legacy continues to inspire players and coaches at all levels of the game.
